WDCU
Newsletter Volume 3, Number 1
The
Capitol Times Newsletter,
the
official newsletter of The Washington DC Unit (Unit #170)
Volume
2, Number 7,
November
20, 2001
Greetings
WDCUers,
This is my second Newsletter as Editor of
the Capitol Times and first as
unit
President. Getting News Past and Present out to the membership is one
of the
most important duties of the Unit officers. I would like to set up
our
newsletter with a link to a webpage so we can post pictures and other
graphics
and would appreciate some feedback on some of the things people
would
like to see in this format. I will still have a text version of the
letter
sent out because some members have email access only. Please email
your
responses and ideas to me:

This
past year the WDCU has had a number of opportunities to travel and
visit a
variety of places. Linda and I took every opportunity to join in not
only
our planned rallies, but made the attempt to attend a number of other
unit
and Region Rallies. In the Process we have met a number of wonderful
Airstreamers
of all ages and are encouraged that other units of our club
continue
to welcome any and all to join them in their local Events.
The Annual Fall Meeting of the Vintage
Airstream Club hosted by
the
Washington DC Unit was held in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. A rally report
by
WDCU
First Lady, Linda Moore, follows:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Washington
DC/VAC Joint Rally
The
Washington DC Unit sponsored joint rally with the Vintage Airstream Club
(VAC)
was also our Installation rally. This
4th Northeast VAC Gathering was
held
October 25-28 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware at the 3 Seasons RV Resort.
It was
a glorious day for arriving to the rally with balmy 80 Degree
temperatures.
The colorful leaves had since past but the weather was a
treat. The ever-popular Campfire/Happy Hour was a
hit every day that we
were
there. Each evening, the campfire crowd
grew as more and more arrivals
joined
us.
By Saturday the weather was cooperating as
far as the sun shining but
the
weekend began turning chilly. The first
planned event for the day was
the
vintage open house, which everyone always enjoys. The VAC website had
advertised
the rally as a joint VAC event and many visitors came just to see
the 26
vintage coaches that were there. We
signed up several new members
and
created a lot of interest.
The event that followed the Open House was
the WDCU Campfire
Installation
Ceremony, which is now a tradition with the Washington DC Unit.
Wilson
Yerk, Region 2 Past President, officiated for the 3rd time (of 3) to
install
the new slate of officers for 2001-2002.

Thanks
Tom for a great two years.
The evening ended with a wonderful shrimp
dinner prepared by our Rally
hosts
and WDCU members Margaret Natof and Gayle McClelland. Congratulations
to all.
Rehoboth, DE is a nice seacoast resort
area with many things to do and
see.
This particular weekend they hosted The Sea Witch Fiddler's Festival.
Four
days was not enough to enjoy all the sights of the area. We look
forward
to returning again some day.. down the road.

2001
Fall Business Meeting
During
our brief, informal Business meeting at Rehoboth Beach, we opened up
discussion
on 2 items. The first item was on
Website development and
maintenance.
Doug Rowbottom and Marc Weimer agreed to help our webmaster
John
McHugh in this task. The second discussion led to actions taken by
board
members to investigate and report on methodologies to initiate E-mail
Meetings
and Voting. These actions required no formal vote and was so noted
in the
meeting minutes. These actions will be discussed at a future Business
Meeting
TBA.

The 3rd Annual Cherry Blossom Rally is a

end on
Sunday, April 7th, 2002. WDCU Charter
members Clayton & Christi
Rogers
have again agreed to be our hosts on their 140 acre farm in Upper
Marlboro,
Maryland, which is a central location between Washington DC,
Annapolis
and Baltimore, Maryland. Last year
Garnett Horner made plans to
do a
Wagon Wheels style parking layout that we will use again this year
while
Clayton is planning nightly campfires in the center of the circle.
Other
amenities are to include gray water
dumping,
available water, and Porta-potties. Plans for providing limited
electric
service again are under evaluation. Planning is still in process
for
meals and other functions. All WBCCI and vintage
Airstreamers
are encouraged to join in but there will be, as last year, a
cut off
of 50 trailers with initial preference to WDCU members and
affiliates.
Costs and directions are to follow in the near future so
