Well our Cherry Blossom Rally is getting very close and there is much excitement in the air. There is still time that any last minute fence sitters can still join in. If this is you then please send off your registration to Ruth Baldwin immediately. I have issued a set of instructions with directions and activities to those of you who have preregistered, please let me know if some of you have not received them.
See the activities page for the latest information on the Cherry Blossom Rally.
In other exciting news, WDCU Trustee John McHugh has become the official WDCU Webmaster. Our new web site can be found at http://www.servintfree.net/wbcci-dc. John has done a great job in first securing this web site for us on the former DC Free Net (and yes this site is free for our Unit) and he then followed this up with writing and posting everything on the site. An interesting side light is that in just the few weeks since John has put our site up, the DC Free Net has changed their regulations and are now only allowing web sites of charity organizations to be hosted. However because we were on the site before this change, we are welcome to stay indefinitely. Even more impressive than the lack of any cost, is that John has organized the site so that it is quick loading and quite informative. The CBR information that I sent out is already available on the site.
In terms of other upcoming Rallies, we still have the following Y2k Rallies planned.
The Region 2 Rally for May 25th to 29th, 2000 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds in Kutztown, PA. This Rally will also feature special VAC parking and an Open House. Don Perry (203/869-1180, don-dee@airstream.net) is the VAC POC and will direct the parking. The WDCU will coordinate a Saturday VAC open house. Unfortunately it appears that the Kutztown registration link is down but applications may be found in the back of the Blue Beret. Preregistrations must be sent in by May 15th.
Joint Rally with PA Unit for Aug. 4th to 6th, 2000, at the Penn Wood Airstream Park, Limestone, PA. Tom Howarth is the POC.
Newport News Folklife Festival & Installation Rally for Oct. 6 to 9th, 2000 at the Newport News Community Park in Newport News, VA. Garnett Horner is the POC and has already reserved a section at the campground for our use.
Joint Rally with Vintage IntraClub Northeast Gathering for Nov. 2nd to the 5th, 2000. Our original plans were to go to the Sandy Point State Park, MD but this has been changed because the Park will not be available for us. Right now it appears that the KOA @ Harper's Ferry in WV will be our spot. John Gilliland and Harley Muse are the POCs.
So that is a quick update of our Unit this month. We sure are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Cherry Blossom Rally and am sure that we will have photographs of the event up on our web site after it is over.
