Happy Millennium WDCUers!!! Hope everyone is spending their time getting their trailers prepared for a busy Y2k camping season.
I'm sorry that it has been awhile since our last correspondence but we were awaiting word on the future of our planned Cherry Blossom Rally (CBR) for April 2000. Well I am happy to report that because of the hard work of Harley Muse that we WILL be hosting this rally. So, without further ado.....
See the activities page for the latest information on the Cherry Blossom Rally.
The Washington DC Unit is proud to present the 1st Annual CHERRY BLOSSOM RALLY. This years theme will be "The Grand Experiment" to denote the uniqueness and special conditions that this event holds. We could not find any record of any previous WBCCI events that HAVE actually been held within Washington DC.
Dates: noon time on Thursday, April 6 until 10 am on Sunday, April 9. At 10 am on Sunday, we will caravan down to the United States Capitol for a group picture that is being arranged by our very own Ray Brett.
Where: Parking Lot 8A, RFK Stadium, Washington, DC. The site is a fenced lot next to the Stadium that has both camera security and we will have round the clock security. This location is on both the Blue and Orange Metro Lines which means that for $5 one can ride the Metro to anywhere in the DC area. We will only be 4 or 5 stops from downtown.
Facilities and Services: No electricity; Water available from a spigot source; Gray and black water pump-out on Saturday morning; 3 Porta toilets; Dumpster for trash; Possible telephone hook-up for email; Public telephones in Stadium and in front of Armory; Adjacent Metro station (you should not need to unhook and use your vehicle during the rally); Daily newspaper (Washington Post); Doughnuts and juice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings; Sandwiches for Friday evening; pizza for Saturday evening.
Events: This time of the year is typically the busiest time of year in Washington DC because of the blooming of the Cherry Blossoms all along the Mall and downtown. In addition to all of DC's monuments and museums, the circus will be at the adjacent Armory on Friday and Saturday. Furthermore, on Saturday the World Champion Major League Soccer Team the DC United have a game at RFK on Saturday. There is much more to do then we can ever fit in for an extended weekend.
Costs: We are limited to a maximum of 40 trailers and need a minimum of 24. The total cost for Thursday to Sunday, regardless of the number of folks per trailer, is $130, which will include our basic meal package. If we reach the 40 trailer limit then this registration cost will come down and refunds will be dispersed. For folks that do not arrive until Friday, the savings is only $10/day because of the fixed costs.
Registration: Please send $130 to Ruth Baldwin (WDCU Treasurer), 6126 Callery Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206; 412/361-2654; baldwin@icubed.com ($120 for Friday arrivals). Preregistration is advised with a $10 increase in registration for applications received after February 29, 2000. Once your preregistration is received then we will mail you an information packet.
