Teresa Gibson, ESL Instructor
Teresa has 12 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Columbus
metropolitan area. Teresa began teaching ESL with CMAA in 1994. Teresa also has
experience assisting refugees in other areas of resettlement, having worked with
Interfaith Refugee Service Organization in 1989/90. She has also worked with the
Columbus Literacy Council in their family literacy program. She has frequently
volunteered her time to tutor immigrants and foreign students. Teresa holds a BS degree in
Secondary Science Education from the Ohio State University.

Maria St. Brisson Moreno, ESL Instructor
Maria first joined CMAA as an ESL Instructor in 1985. She brings more than 30 years of experience
as a language instructor to her work. In addition to CMAA, Maria has had teaching experience at
Columbus State Community College, the Ohio State University, the Continuing Education program of
the Upper Arlington Schools, the Columbus Academy for Boys, and the Honda Family Center of Columbus.
She has also worked as a consultant for the Ohio Department of Education, Immigrant and Refugee
Programs.
Maria's other skills are her fluency in Portuguese, French, and Spanish, as well as her proficiency in
German and Italian. She has used these skills to work as a freelance interpreter/translator and as a
teacher of French and Spanish at Columbus Public Schools. Maria holds an M.A degree in Romance languages,
with special instruction in teaching foreign languages. She also holds a TESL certificate from the Columbus
Literacy Council.

Beth Stock, ESL Instructor
Beth began teaching with CMAA in mid 1999. Before that, she worked for five years as a social worker, including two years with the Catholic Refugee Resettlement Program for Cuban refugees, as well as in low-income neighborhoods and with homeless women. She has worked in the schools as a substitute teacher, and has been active in the PTA and as a Home Child Care Provider. In Boston, she worked as a lay missioner, working with Central American refugees and homeless women.
Beth holds a BS in Social Work from the Ohio State University. She is also certified in "Tribes" , a method of working with groups.

Mazemba Nzwanga, ESL Instructor
Mazemba joined CMAA in August of 2000, and teaches ESL to beginning and low-intermediate level students. His background is well suited to the growing challenges of ESL instruction for new arrivals with minimal literacy skills.
In Columbus, Mazemba has previously taught at Columbus State Community College, the Ohio State University, Kaplan Education Centers, and Columbus Public Schools Adult ESL programs. In his native Zaire, he worked as a teacher of EFL, a teacher trainer, and lecturer in linguistics at the Institut Superieur Pedagogique in Kinshasa, as well as at several high schools and elementary schools in Kinshasa. He holds a B.A. in English and TESOL from the Institut Pedagogique National in Kinshasa, a Postgraduate Diploma in linguistics and TEFL from Edinburgh, Scotland, an M.A. in linguistics from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in Foreign Language Education from the Ohio State University.

Suad Sayid, Math Instructor Suad currently contributes 4-6 hours a week of
her time as a Math Instructor for Somalis who wish to improve their basic arithmetic and math skills.
Suad's primary background is in nursing and midwifery, and she currently works in a Columbus area
nursing home. She practiced as a nurse/midwife in the United Arab Emirates for about seven years,
and prior to that practiced in Hargeisa, Somalia for ten years. Her experience there included work as a
staff midwife and nursing instructor in the Hargeisa hospital, as well as with UNICEF in a research project on
traditional birthing in rural areas. She holds degrees in nursing and midwifery from the Hargeisa nursing
school. She is fluent in Arabic as well as Somali and English.
